Guys and Guitars--유승우(Yu Seung Woo), 로이킴 (Roy Kim) and ICON (노민우)

Yay for Thursdays and Chill Music Stash!!

I have a thing for guitars.  Acoustic guitars.  It's been a good month for guys with guitars.

I'd never heard of Yoo Seung Woo (I've seen it Romanized different ways), but then I heard his cover of Sistar's "Give it to me."  Yes, after I saw this, I went and looked at his actual music videos.  But I still just love him and his guitar and the outdoors.

This kid is sooo super talented.  He also hits notes that I'm sure I would struggle with (I sure hope if his voice changes, it'll change for the better, if that's at all possible...).  This is such a summery version of this song.  And it feels like a cop out, doing a cover on Chill Music Stash--But I don't care :D

Now go and listen to some of his other songs ;)

Roy Kim's "Love Love Love"--Oh man.  Such a beautiful song.  I adore the music video (but I think you guys know already how much I love music videos that combine real events), and the song is... wow.  And he's so young!

This is another summer time song.  It's chill, but peppy, happy and just suited to whatever summer activity you plan on getting up to.

To listen to it is, hopefully, to love it:

Last is a teaser, and not something really chill.  But: it fits the guys and guitars label pretty perfectly.  It's No Min Woo from ICON with his acoustic guitar.

Okay.  Yes, No Min Woo is gorgeous.  But, I also love what they did with his concept: the black and white with the busy-ness of the patterns on his shirt and the guitar, the bling on his hat.  Love the weirdness with the video, and the way he plays that guitar?  Wow.

All I can say: Guys and Guitars.  Seriously.

Have a great week with your chill music :D

장석현 (Jang Seok Hyun), and 버벌진트 (Verbal Jint)--"Delightful Box" and Rap Corner

Sometimes, when I'm not listening to rap, hip hop, R&B or my Chill Music, I listen to songs that just delight me.  You've got those, right?  Songs that you could play over and over and they would never get old?  Doesn't matter what kind of music it is, either.  It could be classical, jazz, dubstep, pop.  You name it, it makes someone out there happy.

Well, I had a song that I encountered this week, and I really wanted to post about it.  The problem is, it's not really chill music, it's not really rap or hip hop, and I had nowhere to put it!  And so, my "Delightful" box came to be.  Like Rap Corner, and the, *cough,* fairly well-established Chill Music Stash, I am going to do my level best to find songs that just make me so happy and put them in the Delightful Box so that everyone can be delighted (or disgusted, whichever the case may be) in turn!  It will probably take up some Tuesdays when I either don't have a rap song that I particularly like that week, or when I have nothing else to post on.

This week?  Tee hee.  Best song ever.  장석현 (Jang Seok Hyun), Kikaflo and 우이경, give
us this song and video that are... So randomly weird, but at the same time, so fantastically awesome.  It's called 아주 좋아, and this is one of those can't-stay-in-your-seats songs: You just have to pop up and dance.  It's a happy at the beginning of summer kind of song.  It's just... Delightful.

I love the video, too.  Random bananas, random people, random pictures of people posing behind painted bathing-suited women (I have no idea what they call that, by the way), and it's so much fun!  The people in the video look like they are just having a blast, and it's so silly and dance-y that I kind of wish I had been there.

A comment here for the video: There are users on Youtube that have said that they think the sound is off and that the video was uploaded wrong.  I think that the artist and entertainment company did exactly what they meant to do.  The song sounds a little bit tinny, but it fits the feel of the video to a T, and I really think that it is supposed to sound like that.  Casual, not super strictly professional sounding, and FUN, just like the video.

Next, because I just HAD to, is 버벌진트 (Verbal Jint) with "비범벅 (Walking in the Rain)", featuring 범키 (Bumkey).  Wow, that surely is a mouthful.

Beautiful video.  I don't think any of us expect anything different from Verbal Jint.  They are always spectacular.  I did especially love that guy dancing, though.  His name is 넘현준 (Nam Hyun Joon).  With the rain flying all over (is it still rain if it has already landed on the ground, or does that classify as water??) from his limbs and hair, it's pure magic to watch.  It would be amazing to watch him dance without the flying water, but WITH??  Strictly magic and nothing else.

Something about adding rain to a video, especially all the slow motion special shots you can do with water, just makes this video visually stunning.

The song.  Holy wow. I love collaborations, especially when rap artists can collaborate with a vocalist and they perfectly compliment each other.  I'm going to compare this one to BNR's recent song, 아무말도없었다 (Did not say anything), featuring 앤 (Ann).  Suiting, since they're with the same company... This one gives me the same shivers, it's that perfect with Bumkey's voice complimenting Verbal Jint's rapping.  And vice versa.  It's a... Jazzy, but at the same time wickedly rhythmic song.  Wonderful.

That's it for this Tuesday.  I truly hope you love both of these songs, and the artists.  Have a great week, and I'll see you back here for Chill Music Stash :D

Lim Kim - All Right; Smalltalk (스몰토크) - Warm Energy

Hey!!!  Really short post today, because it's late and I've been social!  Hooray for human interactions!

Lim Kim's music video "All Right" is so quirky and... I don't really know what to make of it, but it was so interestingly different and I loved it.  This was one of those that I just randomly opened, because I had no idea who she was, and I love her voice and the song.  And the video.  Bizarre as it is.  I'm sure if I took the time to analyze it, there would be some amazing deeper meaning, but I'm soooo tired and it's late.  So all you get is the video.  Which is no small thing.  Be grateful ;)

Just today I got to listen to Smalltalk's whole album, Warm Energy.  There's only the audio, no video for it, but oh man.  This is the perfect album of chill music to listen to whenever.  Just if you're chilling, or if you're driving or doing something else and it's background music.  It is mostly in English--props for that, I suppose?  I'd have liked a Korean album just as well.  Here it is:

Have fun with these and other chill music this weekend, and I'll hopefully get to you on Tuesday with some awesome hip hop... whatever you call it. :D

NELL 'OCEAN OF LIGHT'

This week there didn't seem to be anything... at all to post about.  Even songs or music videos not entirely noteworthy didn't come up on my chill music radar.

Or maybe I was being reeeeeaaaaallly lazy and not looking hard enough for them, because Nell came out with their "Ocean of Light" music video, and I was so excited to share it with you guys that I...  Didn't want to do another song?  Yes, it's all well and good to have new artists and new songs, but... It's Nell!  There are few artists/groups that I will drop everything for, and I have to say that Nell is definitely in that category.

So sit back, relax, pop some popcorn, and read my endless enthusiasm over this music video and Nell.  And, hopefully, fall in love with Nell as much as I am.  I hope you will, because they are fan-TASTIC!

I want to talk about the song so badly, but it can wait.  The music video--Holy awesome, Batman!  Geeking out here.  The more I watch, the more symbolism I get.

When you start out, the members are all in separate rooms, small, confining rooms--trapped, bored, but afraid to leave.  It's not like there are not doors and windows for them to use to escape.  And, honestly, the only traps any of us are in are the ones we see with our minds.  The music video shows us, in fact, that each of the members has chosen to be in the room they are in--one room has several doors in it, another has a wide open window with billowing curtains, another stairs leading down into it.  We sometimes choose the thing that is most comfortable in our life, and become afraid or unwilling to leave what is normal behind.

Shoot to the band members with their instruments--in fact, the part where they're all playing together in the rooms.  Who knew that 4 people could fit into one of those tiny rooms, with their instruments?  I didn't.  And the way they place themselves--one even playing in the bathtub in the blue room--even when you find something that you love, you can be frightened to let go of the familiar, the things by which you feel trapped.  The band doesn't leave the teeny tiny rooms to play.  They still play inside the rooms, even though they are obviously stifled in there.

Then, suddenly, there's light shining through the walls.  It startles, disturbs and frightens us when we find something that we want so much, whether it be a dream job, something we have on our "bucket list," or whatever.  Whether we stumble over something or we deliberately seek this something out, it's ultimately our choice.

When the guys are finally taken from their confinement, they are transported to this "ocean" with their instruments, and it's raining.  At first I thought, "This isn't an ocean of light, and it's raining, and their instruments are going to be ruined!"  But!  Sometimes you have to make that leap, and just love your life.  And you have to do some crazy things, things that make the sensible side of you squirm to think of it.  Like braving the storm and dancing in the rain.  Like taking your instruments out in the rain, and letting them--quite possibly--be ruined.  They look so free, with no walls, no confinement, playing under the sky, the rain and the stars.  No one can stop them.  No one can stop you.  Find that goal and do anything in your power to get it.

And love your life.

On to the song!!!

I have liked Nell ever since I got into Korean Indie music, and I have loved everything that I've heard.  I don't want to talk specifics for this song, other than it is amazing, and Nell has done it again.  Amazing. (that's not really a specific, but oh well!)

What I do want to say is... I have loved watching Nell and listening to their "evolution" to become who they are today.  It could be criticized by some people, but I don't think change is a bad thing.  I think they have kept their strong, core sound, and, rather, explored the possibilities of who they can become.  I love that Nell can do this--show their fans so many sides, and all of them wonderful.

Nell hasn't always sounded like this.  And, honestly, I don't expect them to always produce the same kind of song.  That would be boring.  If you're new to Nell, definitely search for some of their older music, too.  A lot of their older stuff is softer, less electric, more acoustic and definitely wistful.

Nell has a website too!
nellhouse.com

I really hope you like them, because they are one of my absolute favorite groups.  With that, have a fantastic rest of the week and listen to awesome, chill music!  If you've got a request, or a comment, feel free to leave it below :D

브라더수 (Brother Su) feat. Swings - 왜 이러니 (Why Are You Being Like This?)

Forgive my ignorance about musical culture, I beg you.

I thought, if I started off with that, then whatever stupidity I blurt out about this song might slide.  Because, when it comes to music, I only really know two things: "I like this," and "I don't like this."  Otherwise, I feel like a complete idiot stumbling around in the dark, tripping over terms like, "Synth," and "Reggae" and... Yeah.  So, my apologies ahead of time.

This song.

Wow.

Before I checked today on Youtube, I was thinking, "Okay, I'll just have to put up something old that I love to listen to all the time.  Then I'll have tons of things to say, and it might introduce some old, but awesome music."  Brother Su totally saved you guys from that.

Brother Su (브라더수) (Feat. Swings), and his song, "Why are you Being Like This?" (왜이러니) made my day.  And my day was pretty fantastic to begin with.

This song... Doesn't really fit into the "Rap/Hip Hop" genre, even though Swings is there rapping like his awesome bad self.  Here's a plug for Swings: when he doesn't have profanity in his songs, I REALLY like them.  His flow and his voice, and everything.

On to Brother Su's song.  Again...  It's got this heavy beat to begin, and then this swinging rhythm starts up, and then he starts singing, and the treble notes he busts out with no problem at all... Just... Amazing.  Such a light and airy song, it's almost Reggae, a little bit Jazzy.  I love the syncopated rhythm, but I really love Brother Su's voice.  It's so... Light, you know?  He kind of just invokes the spirit of lightheartedness through this song.

I hadn't heard of Brother Su before this, but I am definitely a fan.  For sure.  Check his song out:

I wish there was a video.  It would have been so much fun to watch!  I guess we can hope for next time, right?

Keep listening and being chill and I'll see you back here on Thursday!  I'm definitely feeling Nell... :D

March Hare (3월의 토끼): "Spring Comes, Rain Falls"

You know how, every once in a while, you hear a song, and you think, "This song is... Me.  Right now, in this moment, this song is me perfectly..."??  Have you ever had that happen?

Well, I heard this song, and it felt like everything about it was just... So me.  It's not even a matter of loving a song or hating it.  It's a matter of something resonating with everything that you are--from your experiences to your tastes and thoughts, and it just is.

March Hare's "Spring Comes, Rain Falls," resonates with me.  The heavy, almost metallic rhythm with the wailing synth in the chorus, and her smoky voice.  I've always been more of a melancholy music listener than upbeat.  Whenever I'm angry, I love listening to rock, something that can make me feel better by shouting along.  This song calls to me.  That's weird, I know, but it does.  I hear it, and it seems like everything turns off.  My brain doesn't need to think anymore, I just need to experience it.

It's all in English, which is a bit weird, but I love understanding what she's singing.  At least, mostly understanding :)

It's interesting that such a heavy song is about Spring and rain falling--I would expect Spring rainfall would inspire something lighter and more airy, almost not there, like fairy wings.  But this... It's heart matters.  Heavy stuff, human, thoughts and ideas weighing the music down and making it ponderous.

Here it is, I'll stop rambling now:

On another note, NELL JUST RELEASED A PREVIEW!!!  Oh, I am so excited!!!  They are coming out with a full album!  Here's their preview:

Be excited with me!!!!  Yay!!!

Okay, go listen to your awesome chill music, and I'll see you back here on Tuesday :D

feverdogs, Bumkey (범키), and ROLLSP!KE

Loving the offerings for this week!  As you can probably tell, because I've got three videos!

The first one is from feverdogs (피버독스), and is called Kyung-sung Tune (경성별걱).

I love the video, even if the filming makes me a bit dizzy.  It's fun that they go from place to place, and show them playing their instruments and singing on the streets and in regular everyday places, then going to the club and having it hopping with their music.  It give it a real, fun and upbeat feel.

I love the music--I love their sound--that it's rock (I haven't heard many Korean rock bands on Youtube, I just don't have that kind of access), and I actually really enjoy the lead singer's voice.  The song was fun and had me wanting to dance and kind of just move to the beat.  Plug: I don't like that they end with profanity, but that's sometimes what listening to this type of music gets you.

I'm gonna go with ROLLSP!KE next.  Just because I'm arbitrary like that and like switching things up.  Tee hee.

Their song "Higher" is a fun, kind of Jazzy electronic song that sounds like it would be great clubbing music.  The video is a random awesome light show thing going on, which I watched for about 30 seconds before going to a new tab and just listening to the song.  Some songs were meant to be just listened to, you know?

On that note: seriously.  I love electronica and techno.  And this is just so much fun.  It's a dancing song, with a great rhythm and a... It almost sounds like an electric guitar with this melody thing going through the whole of the song.  I really really like it.

I saved this next one for last, because I... well, I love this song.  Bumkey's "Bad Girl" (범키, "미친연애") is... Everything wonderful.  My friend, Katie, informs me that it's a Tango (who knew??), and I just adore it.

The video is actually way fun.  I adore that she's super tall in her heels.  I love that she is at times teasing, tempting, and tying them up.  The set is interesting, in that it is so sparse, and you even have the uncovered lights shining toward the camera.  There's really no background, just them and the furniture they're using, whether it's a chair or the sofa.

Interesting thing, too: How the camera keeps checking her out, just like a man would: Down then up.  And the fact that they've got her in this short skirt to show off her long legs.  And how the guys are all dressed in nice-ish clothing.  I could be reading waaaay too much into this because I studied Literature and was trained to analyze, but this could be a comment on society and the differences in men and women and how we notice different things about the opposite gender.  I am not a man, but I've heard they like sexy things like those dresses and heels.  Whereas women really like to see a well-dressed man.  Anyway.

The song?  Sigh.  I love the saxophone, I love the jazzy, tango-feel of it.  His voice (Wow, I can't get over how amazing his voice is, like chocolate!), the rapping bits... Oh this song is just wonderful.  And, ESPECIALLY the very end where he's just making noises and singing them?  Best. Thing.  Ever.  I don't have more to say because it's just so great!

I hope you all like the music, and have fun with the other stuff you're listening to!  If you have any requests, leave them in the comment section for me :D  See ya soon!
